Who Do You Think You Are
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE I am a 'good ol' boy' from Georgia Who makes an effort to write poetry I enter contests and sometimes win But if I lose, I try again I have made lots of friends on Poetry Soup Too many to list, or I'd give you the scoop I will tell you a little about who I am If you promise you won't send it to Spam I served my country in an Air Force career Stationed in locations far and near For twenty years I wore the 'blue' Protecting our freedom - that's what we do After retirement I decided to enter A career in the VA Medical Center Caring for Veterans who served as well I heard the stories they had to tell Stories that often paralleled my own Stories of some who were sent back home In a flag draped coffin for all to see This man served his country honorably Now I am old and fully retired But I am safe and also inspired By those who don the uniform Of the fighting man who braves the storm He faces danger that some never see Serving with honor to keep America free I served with pride that will ever remain This is who I think I am 23 August 2018 For the contest sponsored by Caren Krutsinger
