Bravely Went Freedom's Angelic Clan
My mind filled with Vietnam’s calamity I chose my fate my destiny My sacrifice a worthy story For the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory Along the jungles’ trail soaked with blood Where bodies lay in Vietnam mud Here and there the sky showed blue I walked with courage thru-n-thru. I heard the AK 47’s clattering sound A Marine lay' dead on blood soaked ground. Charley waited until it was time His deadly guns aimed and ready to chime. The air was filled with an acrid smell I came under its deadly spell. The charm of Charley’s guns rang out. And fell the young marine, strong and stout. Show me my way around this enemy’s trap The marine was stricken, a heavenly nap I felt the sting just above my belt A burning feeling was what I felt. A cry of anguish fell from my lips Blood poured from my wounded hip O’ Vietnam, O’ Vietnam What have done? Yesterday before I met you I never knew what war could do I pondered my faith, held my gun Never a coward, I refused to run. A blood smeared helmet hid my sunken eyes My body weak, I thought I might die Eyes were open, could not see I fell to my knees; praise God to be. A battle-weary Marine sent to a heavenly sleep but God rejected me, he refused to keep There’s still plenty left to do, he said Long have I lasted, yet my buddies lay dead A Valiant soldier, the steward of my legacy With pitiful regrets embalmed with empathy Though I wander, sorrow hand in hand My thoughts still on that blood soaked land.
