Dear Canopy Blue, Letter To a Friend
Dear Canopy. Usually, I cast my eyes in your direction and look away. Today was one that I chose not to look the other way. There are fire season days when smoke gets into my eyes. And then, there are some days of thick and dark clouds, and others when you are filled with beauty and colorful clouds. Most days I look up and see you clearly, sitting peacefully. Yet there have been days that I have observed you curiously. But today, for some reason, I observed you and for the first time, I saw your name. Canopy Blue, opened sky, so innocent with nothing to hide. So massive, vast, and free, ever there with never a care. An extravagant dome and such a vast domain. You sit there unmoved, unchanged, and so solid like an oak. Somewhere out there in the distant blue, perhaps far beyond the reach of even you, there's a place called heaven where millions have gone as they passed through you. My dear friend, someday, when my mission on earth has been completed, I too shall join that heavenly crew. And as I pass through you Canopy Blue, I shall recall and pause. With a smile, I shall wave and say "Hi". It seems everything above us is moving rapidly through you; both small and large from worlds unknown. After millions of miles, they are constantly on a fiery race and destined to their doom. But you, Canopy Blue, just sit and ask no questions nor give commands. In our blessed atmosphere, you grant passage and permission to clouds, winds, and rain. These entities float, blow, and pour on earth from above. Some say that above us there's only sky, but you and I know it isn't so. You have not only seen thousands of stars fall, but you've seen it all. And you, Canopy Blue, simply watch, and calmly ponder the paths of millions. And Oh, Canopy, you are so awesome; so quietly you sit; so patient, and Oh, so beautiful. 08132018PSCtest;Entered070721, A Brian Strand July 8 Contest
