The Color Red
THE COLOR RED I took a walk in autumns leaves And felt as though, I heard god breathe, The wind it blew across my face Then I knew I tasted grace. I felt a hand slip into mine Knowing I’d lost sense of time, “Let us walk”, he gently said He handed me, the color red. “Study it”, he told me there You will find it everywhere, “I watched you on one winter’s day Cheeks so red, while out at play. The first rose you received Was given to you, one day by me, The color red was what I chose And then he tapped me on my nose. The sunset you loved in 89 Was created then with you in mind, I saw you cry one lonely night And then he squeezed my hand so tight. Your face was streaked red with tears I knew I could, erase your fears, I saw that I would face the cross In the garden I prayed, to count the cost. Then on my hand, I felt him rub I looked down and noticed, blood, I saw that he could hardly speak It was then I saw his feet. I pulled away, to see his hand With tears he said “you understand”, For you to live, I had to die He moved his robe I saw his side. I clung to him with all my life “Who could pay such a price”? He said, “I saw you walk today I knew that you had lost your way”. Unless they seek me, they won’t know Then I cried, when he turned to go, “Remember the cross” as he turned to leave The blood was red that set you free. I took a walk in autumn’s leaves And met the god who filled my need, And when I think on all he said I’m thankful for the color red. Written By, Keyna Darling
