We Loved At First: Love Left Quitetude
I Old English Lawns unseen hands watered and caressed emerald tinted aquamarine green O the most beautiful natural lanscape Not even lawn furniture, or modern waterhose O the gratitude for this interruption of civilzation How you overcame drought, all weather extremes showing neither bruises, nor memories of hurts A second century loomed ahead Newly-weds from inside the mansion began thinking That modern type of obsessive thinking This land must be put to productive use We are called Stewards of the Earth by God Forgetting everything else his and her God declares II It began on the far side of this Providential Lawn The Newlyweds declared their plan in a "Manifest of Destiny" The first to go were the giant sequioa, even Joshua Cacti near and far Neither saw the beauty in brambles and hedges near the Mansion Then went the meadow, the rose bushes; and the orchards, next ... Steel and metal miracles came, upturning the green and golden earth After the rains wept, the earth streaked coppery red down mounds Something seeped into the water table, flowed into the stream The Witness watched as towers and windows and glass came To declare: We have mastered nature, this New World
