The Haunted House
We took the plunge and bought a country home, A place for peace and a chance to be alone, I cant believe the price we paid for this place, Needs some repair but its no disgrace. Left the city that was sunny and bright, Pulled up to the house and it now seems like night, Looking proudly at our new home, Suddenly we don't feel so all alone. I reached for the front door when, It opened by itself, must have been the wind, We walked in and had to shake off a chill, Trying to concentrate on our house and the new thrill. This place is old and there is no phone, But we always felt like we were never alone, A few times I thought I could see, A shadow in the corner watching me. Eventually one night the terror started, Knocks, slaps and scratches from the departed, Who despised all the humans they could see, Giving me evil thoughts about my family. Suddenly I'm chasing them through the house, Trying to axe my children and my spouse, I don't care if we ever leave, No need to cry, no need to grieve. They'll find the children in the library wall, And that wretched wife is in the attic above the hall, I'm in the pantry under the shelf, Where I finally hung myself. I'm looking out the window waiting to see, The arrival of the next family, To welcome them to their country home, Where they will stay forever and never be alone.
