The Delight In the Five Senses
There’s something about my eyes when they see a white rose, the petals so delicate and tender as it flourishes and grows. Or how about the way my dog looks when he is sleeping sound, so peaceful and quiet, I wonder how he is when I’m not around. I adore the pebbles along the shore as the ocean fiercely flows, and I love seeing the smile on my daughter on the playground. I don’t know what I would do without my mother’s pot roast, or the taste of my homemade jam on my morning toast. The yumminess of my husband’s hamburger on the grill leaving my appetite satisfied and brings me a thrill. There’s fondness in the relishing of my rice, I must boast, as my tasty lemonade soothing my throat helps me fulfill. The scent of my daughter’s hair reminds me of her younger years, sometimes I get so emotional it brings me to weeping tears. There is something about the fragrance of my husband’s cologne, it brings me back to when we first met when I was so alone. I love the gentle smell of my white bunny Lucky’s floppy ears, or my grandma’s apple pie that is so famous and well known. My favorite song playing in the car brings me a sincere smile, and dancing and singing as I am driving is just my silly style. The affection I hear in my daughter in every word she talks makes my heart skip a beat as we go on those long walks. When I hear the music I heard as I walked down the aisle, It brings me back sixteen years ago hearing the singer’s vox. The embrace my husband bestows at night when we lay together enjoying each other’s touch without words to say. The softness of the fur on my dog’s tail brings me delight, or the feel of the emerald grass on a warm Summer night. I love the feeling of the heat on my skin during the day- these five senses I enjoy…smell, taste, touch, sound, sight. *Vox- the sound made by the vibration of vocal chords* Five Senses Poetry Contest Viv Wigley August 6, 2018
