I praise God that you are my owner, trainer, friend...
who lives out your faith and practices the Bible verse
"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.”
Bear with my nervousness through my whinings
as I prepare for my “Thanksgiving Speech”
in the scheduled Animal Welfare Society Convention
where you and your household will be honored as
this year’s distinguished foster family for dogs.
Though we have an obvious language barrier,
you always make a way to understand me,
as well as to show me how to comprehend you, too
thru your sensitive and sensible dealings
moved with care and love, along with prudence.
How blessed am I to have you and your family
adopting me, and making me a part of your home.
So delighted was I the first time I heard you
affectionately calling me “Aleli” with the joyful
assertion that such is my name, my special identity
(even though I’m just an “askal”* or an ordinary dog).
Aside from providing for my needs, including my wants,
like my pretty accessories and toys of all sorts…
You even pray for me, and let me witness your
Bible studies and fellowships, I proudly guard;
and I hope to organize soon such with fellow dogs…
as long as your discernment favors it.
What more can I ask? Please be patient
with me and my moods.
Again, thanks so much; and yes,
I just learned that you did your best
to give my sibling a decent burial
after you found him abandoned.
I rejoice with you in today’s tribute
for you and your family. May you continually
“regard the life of your beast”** by God’s grace. Amen!
*Askal in our country is short for “Asong Kalye”
which means dog (aso) along the street (kalye).
**Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast...
