Rose
I once gave a rose to the sun, As a confession of thank you’s and warmth. It was a rose found in a beautiful garden next to an apple tree, It was buried under the rich soil, And a snake with broken eyes told me not to touch it. But I did. I once gave a rose to the sun, But the sun cut off the dance of the red petals, And they fell down to the ground, Begging for water. In the end, They never got any, But they still try to dance on broken legs. The stem never wilted though. You couldn’t cut it or break it or burn it, And it hurt you if you tried. I left it at home, And put it in a vase with no water, Hoping that it would die and grow. I once gave a rose to the sun, and in return the sun gave me a stem with thorns and red faced broken dancers. One day I realised that the vase seemed to look at me with familiar broken eyes, And that the sun wasn’t shining anymore.
