Talk to Ray He was sure to have a story That would make yours pale in comparison And you would walk away feeling thankful for your lot You see, Ray had the worst luck with health, money and trusting friends Some said Ray attracted trouble like a magnet He’d always say “What are you going to do? Getting angry won’t fix anything” Ray would always have a smile, a positive attitude No matter how devastating his latest episode Ray defied odds so many times, we thought he’d never die He fought the Grim Reaper and sent him off on his way many a time Ray was getting every last penny’s worth of that old defective body He was going to live every last minute till his heart gave out A walking pharmacy, his body a laboratory Heart transplant, so many other operations Pieces missing, organs working at minimal capacity Ray was living on borrowed time and he knew it all too well He thought they’d forgotten all about him but his number did come up We were all shocked when Ray died But was hard to shed a tear His funeral was a celebration of how he’d cheated death on so many counts The service was a tribute to a hero who defied all odds Who’d spent every last second loving life And in the end was tired and ready to hang up his hat We all knew him as The Man in Black AP: Honorable Mention 2020 Posted on July 8, 2018
