A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To Dreamland
I could see, feel, and hear it. The fragrance was of an arresting aroma. Things began to take shape after high school when I enrolled for college. Five years after finishing high school, I graduated from college with high hopes. I was aligned with the right people, right organization, and the right job. A few weeks after college, I was saying "I do" at the right church with the right girl. At that point, all things relative to my call and dream seemed to be right on target. I was offered a captivating and challenging taste of an opportunity to help people. But a funny thing that wasn't so funny happened on the way to fulfilling my dream. Then, in less than 18 months, what seemed a dream turned into one big nightmare. A scandal involving my superior unraveled the dream team, forcing in new leadership. With that transition, I was being served a dose of bitter herbs and felt in a subtle way that I was being advised that my services were no longer needed. So I resigned. I felt out of place in the new line-up, and in less than a year I found my way to the exit. After navigating my way through cloudy tunnels of disappointment, disrespect, and rejection, without funds or a plan, I found myself starting over at the ripe old age of 24 years. Neither lectures nor classroom exercises can prepare one for certain funny things that happen on the way to fulfilling one's dream. Perhaps such training is best obtained on-the-job where the rubber meets the road and deep trials sting 'deep into the heart'. For the next twenty years, I could best be described by the song, "On The Road Again". There are all kinds of storms in life, and there is even the perfect storm where there seems to be no possible way out. I weathered the storm without being cast out to sea. I still have the 'right girl', and I'm finishing the course a happy man. No, I did not 'set the world on fire' nor 'walk on water', but there was one holding my hands who does. When I face my Master, I expect Him to say to me, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things......Now enter into the joy of the Lord". 62618,Contest,Funny Thing...,Haigh
