The Story of a City
the city slept like dead after the plunder, and the lady in shroud took care that no one else watched her; reached the far end of the lake and gave birth to a son. the city slept like dead; she returned to the palace, laid a puppet in the crib, and killed herself. blood gushed forth flooding the royal floor, crimson. the city slept like dead. the stream of blood tended to meander through the land and reached the end of the lake hemmed in by tall trees. they waited and waited for this cherished nectar, roots sucked and sucked, tendrils splinter madness, and they grew up taller, stronger, committed to protect the prince. the city was sleeping like dead and puppet reigned; for twenty years.
