My love for her was ever stronger But her unknowing of me grew ever longer I had to have her, I’d buy her things I’d buy her a new life, a pair of wings I’ll throw a party, I’ll meet her there We shall meet on the front porch stair I’ll show her around, I’ll give her the tour Then I think I shall begin to woo her We’ll meet the guests; she’ll be at my side My extravagance and money shall turn the tide The party’s near over, I’ll ask her to dinner Then I think I shall be the winner “Miss Lawless, may I have a word?” “Why yes, you may, what is it good sir?” I asked her to dinner, she looked at me long Then in an instant, something was wrong A man had crept up behind her, unseen In my mind I had started to glean “Who was this man? Where did he come from?” “He looks as if he came from the south slum…” I asked the man, “How do you do?” “I’m doing fine,” he replied, “and you?” “I was just showing Miss Lawless around.” “Miss Lawless you say?” Said the man with a frown “But this is my wife, Mrs. Lawless, Cindy to me.” My hearts pleasure was now to be set free I showed them the door, they left with a goodbye Sitting alone in my study, I wondered…why…
