Life Is Worth Living
If you let it age can slowly steal the” You” of bygone years. The mind has its defenses but as the body breaks down the effect of the loss of capabilities wears on the mind and can result in that fateful day when you look in the mirror and say out loud to your reflection “admit it, your old”. From that day forward, no matter how you try to combat the aches and pains and the mental fatigue, the mind has moved on and enrolled you in the “time to accept the inevitable club” and holds daily meetings on the couch in the garden room and makes two hour naps mandatory. As a result, you are now on that slippery slope called “waiting to check out” which adds new activities to your daily schedule such as funeral planning, review of wills, cleaning out your man cave and designating what should go to whom, and last but not least making sure your spouse is prepared to go on without you. But I am sure that many of you are waiting and hoping that I will say “but wait, get a grip, I’m not dead yet”. If you are one of those then I thank you for your optimism and I think I can agree without hesitation. So let’s move ahead. First, get rid of the couch in the garden room. Second, have a long talk with yourself about what you can do both physically and mentally to rejuvenate your body and spirit to a level that creates energy, the elixir of life, to the degree that you can take long walks for exercise and look at your surroundings as “mind candy” and develop the will to carry on even if for only a few more years. Life is there for the taking for those that are willing to reach out from this merry-go-round called life and grab the brass ring.
