To Know She Still Loves Me
To Know She Still Loves Me Was years ago meant to be an introduction To thread a line; between, to one day reconnect Was it chance that she and I had such affection That all these years later, I would never forget How the warmth of her smile still caress’s my heart In fevered rhythm; thoughts, she is here in my arms How our fitting bodies, now memories apart Yet, these separate paths, bring me cause for alarm A single note, I sing; through winds of changing times A curious plea; will she hear my song, in tune Will I hear an echo, second verse, sung in kind? Or will I hear silence, as she fades ‘way, from view As I lay here in wait, to her window she came With a warm greeting smile, we had talked through the night She spoke of happiness, and with joy: her new name Then she asked about me, and I told her of mine As the years have past by, through her window I’ve seen What I know I have dreamed, so I leave her alone A family of four with a home as pristine But sometimes I see her, in the window, postponed Till, one night she called me; silhouette in the door Outstretching her arms, in an outline of sadness And the closer I came, so much color; restored I was lost in green eyes, in her safety. I nest As our magnetic lips reminisce of our past And just as I pictured: this, -our puzzle complete Yet, without any words, like a dream it can’t last A woman needs family, and so, she retreats All my selfish desires will never take her away For the chance that she, and I have this affection I know that I love her, and that she feels the same Was years ago meant, to be, an introduction © 2018 Jeffrey Spencer
