The Last Play
What are these emotions I should be happy, at best But alone I sit and drive and think And tears fall to my chest ‘Twas the last adventure The one with those I knew Forever now I’ll be an outsider I’ll finally be gone too It was the last of happy days Of memories late and loud It was the last of shining nights On black boxes and cheaply filled crowds Soon I too will be only a memory My replacements won’t know my name And when my counterparts think on our last grand display I wonder if they too will cry the same I wonder wonder wonder What they think as I think of them I only want their friendship and nostalgia But I feel I’ve gone round the bend For I must be crazy to ever think As much as I need them they’d need me I’ll shrink and shrink until I disappear And no one will miss me. You’ll see.
