Our hearts have longed for those we love, and weep for those we've never met While living close to sorrow's edge I'd feared the world was gone, had burrowed down, … might lose a springtime filled with hope, forgotten how to skip a rope,… A titmouse flew outside the glass then perched upon the window sill It sat upon the window's edge and seemed to look me eye to eye, and by and by the moment filled with something new, I'd thought I'd lost I sipped the coffee from my cup… While looking up …my breath was caught, and snatched away like troubles, tossed New lens were honed for downcast eyes, I watched in awe, and joy was found for just this moment. And all around a cloud had lifted from the ground The dew was wrung from glacial fronds The ice was rendered from the pond I watched the titmouse fly away and glassy-eyed,...my hope rebound. My eyes are focused on the spring, that now, I know, will come again Alas, my reasoning is new The season and my dreams are too Whatever comes, we'll make it through Whatever comes we will find some good I'm grateful that the titmouse understood ___________________________________________________________ Written originally in 2018 Revised April 2, 2020 during the Pandemic
