A Skunk's Tale
A hunter was out one day just for the exercise and fun, not looking to kill anything. He had a reputation as an excellent hunter. To be on the safe side, for his own protection, he wisely took his favorite gun with him. About two miles from home, he spotted a nice shady tree and decided to take a break for snacks. His lovely wife had packed about six sandwiches, a couple of snickers, three cans of sprite, and plenty of coffee. Before he could relax and enjoy his snack, a big brown bear walked up and said to him, "Welcome to my great domain. I have owned these parts since my papa died five years ago". The hunter looked at him with an eye of displeasure and replied, "Who do you think you are?" My father settled these parts long before you or I were even born." For the next ten seconds with some thirty yards between them, they had a good stare at each other until the two of them were interrupted by a deer who kept his distance with plenty of well-deserved bear fear. The would-be peace-making deer had overheard them talking and hoped that he could head off a rumble in the jungle. But before the hunter, the bear, and the deer could find some means of a peace agreement, up walked a skunk with an altruistic air about himself, and looking like he owned the place. The hunter, bear, and deer were unified when it came to skunks. They all shouted in unison, "Who do you think you are?" With a sense of arrogance, hubby the hunter gave off an utterance that even God would have trouble understanding. The sporty hunter assumed that he was in charge, but if he was, his reign ended when he needlessly provoked the skunk. Before he could reach his gun to scare off the skunk, he let off an awful spay that scattered the whole bunch. The skunk was then left all alone to enjoy a homemade lunch fit for a friendly skunk. The skunk finished his lunch and said, "Why, they never waited for the answer to 'who do I think I am'. I was prepared to tell them that I think I'm just a friendly skunk. 04172018PoSoupContest, Who Do You Think You Are, Caren Krutsinger
