Weird Encounter
WEIRD ENCOUNTER I see him after months & months of no communication But I wonder which words to tell him Hey? How are you doing? How have you been? It’s been long since we spoke? And I end up saying nice seeing you again, As I stretch my arm to give him a handshake. We sit gazing at each for a while not knowing what to say Suddenly, he asks what drink will you have? “A glass of cold passion juice, I respond.” In my mind, I have mixed reaction I want to cry, I need answers, and I need him to tell me what happened But wonder at the same time how will I start the conversation. Finally, he breaks the silence and asks how I have been For the period we have been apart. For the sake of the good old times He pulls me in his arms and we start dancing Dancing to the classical music we love listening too He turns me around stares at me again Then, I lean on his shoulder He whispers, word by word “I missed dancing with you, holding you in my arms.” As the music comes to halt, he releases my hand and we head to sit. Being awkward as it may seem Responding one word to his questions Without follow up questions or statements My eyes are full of tears, nearly breaking down But I hold on and hide my emotions Time passes by and we bid each other goodbye Hoping the next meeting won’t be awkward. “Am happy seeing you again, he says that as he kisses my cheek and exits” By Juliet Minayo
