The Intruder: A Halloween Story

It was past 9 pm and Jill had just pulled inside the garage when through the mirror saw the bright eyes of a person, or a thing, running toward her in the driveway and immediately reached for her cell phone and called 9 11. Luckily the garage door closed before the intruder could get in and Jill was completely agitated as she spoke with the police dispatcher .

"Please. I need help. There's an intruder in my driveway. I'm scared." She then gave her address to the officer who told her to sit tight and wait for the police cruiser in a few minutes.

"Oh my god. He's banging on the garage door now. Please hurry." The banging stopped after a minute or so. Jill was shivering in fear, praying under her lips. A few minutes later, she could hear the police siren getting closer and closer. She got out of the car and only when she heard the cruiser's door opening and closing right outside followed by a male voice calling on her, Jill clicked the remote and opened the garage door with a huge sigh of releif on her face when she saw a big police officer with a flash light in his hand checking the premise. She thanked him for coming so quickly and he escorted her inside, asking if she lived alone.
"No, I live with my husband, just dropped him off at the airport -- to New York for a short business trip." The officer nodded his head and searched the rooms to make sure everything was alright and then asked, "Is your alarm working?"
"I think so, I mean I'm sure it is."

"Well then, you should be alright. Whoever it was must be gone now, so don't worry. Just call us again if you need to, okay?"

Jill was enormously appreciative and thanked the officer again and then, just as he was walking out suddenly remembered that the dispatcher had not said "your call is being recorded," which struck her as odd and she mentioned it -- perhaps she shouldn't have. The officer turned around, his bright eyes beaming at her and his face beastly.
