Hello Soupers, can anybody, TPS as well, tell me why we have to do the 'Captcha' when we are simply commenting on a poem, or a blog, soup mail and anything else. I can understand it when we initially sign in, but, once we have signed in why do we still have to do it, and why are they so difficult to read, they touch each other and sometimes it is not clear which letter it is. Why can 't we just write our comment and press a 'Send' button? Other sites do not do it, so why is it used here?

This technology is used to prevent automated SPAM programs (bots) from sending SPAM emails, comments, or other unwanted data through PoetrySoup servers. It is used to help prevent criminals from harming PoetrySoup or Soupers.

I know they contract out for the "captcha". But it looks like the contractor could make them readily readable in regular type. The idea is that a human types them in, so we should not have to guess at what they are and sometime log in two or three times. I do not believe there are auto matic systems (which is what they are guarding against) which can actually read standard print and then log in.

Good question, David. I keep meaning to write down the unusual ones that end up saying clever phrases!!! that's all they are good for, to see if they make up a cool phrase.

A bot is a program that sneaks into unprotected sites and can hack information about the members. It is a pain, but it also makes our work and ourselves more protected.

Captchas for our own protection.... if you click on ..type the characters.. it will take you to a page and explain the reason for the validation.... bots can't read all them slanty letters... hugs David.... xox...pd

I agree and it is long winded sometimes time is at a premium and to do all the catchpha's really annoying. Just got it wrong and have to do it again ....
