Fishing

By Laura Dee Battle
July 12, 2015

We have the best of news, they said
As rain cascades upon the shed
The perfect time for you is now
A place where pain is not allowed

A harbor from your storm of pain
A place where hearts will not refrain
We came across this perfect place
Where people smile as they embrace

You gotta wake up from that dream
Where you are still part of their team
Cause here we speak of simple things
Where all you need is what you bring

I know you’re still in so much pain
Somehow you haven't gone insane
So find your heart; wipe off the dust
Make sure your soul will never rust

Just stay alive, for one more day
So you and I can find a way
Don’t ever think you’re leaving here
Until your thoughts are crystal clear

It’s not a time for you to die
I know there’s room for one more try
So leave behind your bitter past
Start living like you’re meant to last

It’s not a crime for you to fail
Release your heart, forget the bail
Just make it count, ‘cause you are here
Please come inside and have a beer

The time is now to love your life
Like you deserve more than a knife
Your pockets may be empty now
But we’ll get by, don’t worry how

Just let it go; what you went through
The boy you were; the pain you knew
Be bold enough to make a wish
An honest dream; to catch a fish
