Staring at the Coat

And I awoke with my eyes
Opened the wardrobe and stared
My coat stared back from the hunger
Shoulders slumping and the hanger straining
The steel metal wept with rust
Stained my eye with turpitude
And I awoke with my mind

Ten years, same spot
I turned my eye miles away
The woe I never wore you
Till you rusted your trust
The coat my Ma gave me

Mama, Son, said she
The sanctuary is here
See you at the church and let me smile
That Sabbath I wore it
And now I know it
I wish I tore it

Ten years Man
Never been to Church!
Quite cold and I stretch my hand
Yet I sweat with my mind
As I stare at my staring Coat!
