Don't Lead Me On

That night you walked into the room; my heart skipped a beat;
I knew by the shadow of the full moon, kismet would have us meet.
You flirted with every guy in the place, leaving jaws dropped to the floor.
You could tell by the look upon my face, I was hoping for a little bit more.

I would walk bare foot upon coals of fire; I would swim down the Amazon;
I will let you fill me with desire, just please don’t lead me on.

You sang a set; took a break; sat at the table with me.
I knew my future was at stake, when you placed your hand upon my knee.
My heart’s been broken beyond repair; I have a history of bad choices.
Guardians whispered, “Be Aware”, but I ignored the Angel’s voices.

I would walk bare foot upon coals of fire; I would swim down the Amazon;
I will let you fill me with desire, just please don’t lead me on.

I stayed until your gig was done; offered to drive you to your home.
You said, “Come in, let’s have some fun, nights shouldn’t be spent alone”.

My feet got blisters; the current grew rough
I couldn’t resist her, couldn’t get enough.

At the break of dawn, we made love again, then you said I had to go.
This wasn’t a beginning just another dead end; a feeling I had come to know.

I walked bare foot upon coals of fire; I swam down the Amazon;
I let her fill me with desire, but she was just…
leading
me
on.
