I gently beat the drum

Premium Member DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Steady beat
Orchestra plays
Trumpet sounds
A Soldier goes to war, but might not come back
Every sunrise and sunset
Every foot stepping march moving in courage
Every salute being an honor
Symbolic nature
Eye on individual military uniform
Thank you for your service
Echoes of War in sacrifice
The thought of devastation
Ashes that rise with a darkened shade
Front and center made by a Soldier
Purple Heart reminder
Commitment
Mission Control
The Soldier taking whole
The Battlefield
Point of circumstance
Situation at hand
Ammunition response
Music extending in the distance
A soldier’s life cut short in an instance
The aftermath
A final salute and departure
Every effort that was made
Fulfillment of service
Drum roll honor
Salute

Premium Member Beat the Drum Softly

Beat the drum softly, and beat it with heart,
Lay down a rhythm that rises from soul;
Small though indeed is the size of our part,
That which it is, we can still play in full.
Loud are the clashes that crash from the street,
Ominous thunder that thrashes from storm;
Myriad pacing of multitude feet,
Let still not chaos be your inner form.
What is the all but the sum of the small?
Who knows what corner shall matter the most?
Stand for a moment before you shall fall,
Honored the watchman that stands at his post.
Beat the drum softly, your rhythm shall stay
Part of the universe winding its way.

DRUM OF LIFE

They always dance to it
The drum and rhythm of life
The beat are so lovely
If you can get it.
Life is a mystery
A journey you alone ride
But with support it becomes worthwhile.

Life is so frustrating
When you know or own nothing.
Drives you crazy, if you're lazy
Not having the courage to go after,
What you want or need.

There's enough for all
Some want everything
So they can use people, just like tools.
Many wanna start
From the top, not the bottom
From everything, not somewhere.
Variety is the spice of life;
Everyone can't be a leader, there must be followers.

Premium Member THE DRUM MAJOR KING

THE DRUM MAJOR: MLK

Reaping his harvest,
Nourished spirits marching on–
King's voice echoing:-

With the Drum Major,
Up the mountaintop we go;
Our eyes on the prize:-

King lies within us,
Shepherding us on the way;
Mountaintop climbing:-

King’s nature blooming…
Guided spirits blossoming…
We...overcoming…

Jill loves the hill

Jill lives in a town with a mill,
She loves wearing clothes with no frill,
Though she doesn't mind them made of twill,
She cooks her foods using a grill.

She often climbs high on the hill,
To fetch fresh water with a thrill.
Today, she felt both tired and ill,
Filling the drum, she must fulfill.

So, her mum made her go fetch still.
Jill couldn’t climb despite her skill.
She felt worse in the windy chill,
And fell, spilling the bucket fill.

The valley echoed loud her shrill,
Her fall was stopped by an anthill.
Now her mum'd pay the clinic bill,
Though doing so is not her will.

Why not fetch from a nearby rill?
Now she's stuck taking a strong pill,
Just God knows when she'll take it till,
For that steep fall was a near-kill

Premium Member JUST BECAUSE

Just because television is a bore
writing a poem is less a chore
I can live in a scribble where words soar
Minds that ripple the universe forevermore

Because I am envious of your style
Yours is limitless like silver smile
You are cool like a sculptured rock
Turquoise jewel of classic hip hop

Because I think too much all the time
And want your attention is that a crime
I have no privacy in my purple pages
For ink bleeds are my sacrificial sages

Because you are dark and I am light
Within our red hearts we unite
You build bridges despite dilemma and frown
You lift others up when they are down

Because you've been hungry you feed others
Because not for religion but for the brothers
You march to the beat of your own drum
Because you do others are inspired to come

You think outside the box
You were born from classic rock
Because there is music in your walk
We all lose it when you talk

Because your words can bring peace
Like black bird with a song to sing
Your ancestors were kings queens unique
I love your swag and black destiny

Premium Member the drum set

my husband has a drum set
it is like a giant scorpion that takes up half the house
ever see Clifford the big red dog?
this drum set makes Clifford look like a flea

Having this drum set is tantamount to having a T-rex in your home
It sits in one spot, while you attempt to vacuum around it.
It would be different if my husband used the drum set.
He has not touched it for at least twenty-seven years.

The Drum Is Beating Still

The drum is beating still
For now the setting sun
Will set the beating heart
Now that the race is run

Beyond the moving breeze
Beyond the dying light
The phantom thunder cries
The drum rolls in the night

The shadows in the dark reveal
The moonscape of the lawn
One feels the beat percussive
Pulsing – on and on

It beats a rhythmic message
In passages beneath
The granite stones that listen
To what it will bequeath

Of music it has harbored
Of songs it dwells upon
That sing we still into our cups
For those among us gone –

Behold the moving shadow, now
Behold the fading breath
Passing through the doorway
Beyond that final step –

And now what countenances
The thunder in the sky?
We hear it in the distance
But miss it with our eyes

We miss it in our living
A spirit unfulfilled
Forever in denial –
The drum is beating still

Dedicated to Bruck, Tiz and Neil ("The Professor") Peart -> Drummers all who left their mark, and are beating still within my heart.
