Blossom

                                              Sweet scented blossom

petals in my lunch

thirst quenched
by snow's runoff...
I roll up my jeans

my breath
silenced by cold water...
blue feet with red nails

reaching the meadow
discomfort is forgotten...
blisters on my heel

sneezing

flannel sleeve hanky

wildflowers
reflect on sunglasses...

A Symbol Of Spring's Resurrection

cold February's rain saturates the good earth... star magnolia blooms
A symbol of spring's resurrection are those early blossoms. The Daffodils spring up under the bright yellow Forsythia and beautiful pink tulip shaped flowers cover the Japanese Magnolia..Resurrection stated in the most subtle way. They say to me there is hope that the sun will soon warm the earth's soil signaling to all of nature to come alive.
red buds glow decorating the roadside... heavy fog cloaks all
Spring's presence can be unobtrusive slipping in like a lamb. One day it is winter then a heady essence wafts on a zephyr that aroma of pale lavender Wisteria announcing spring has sprung. Sponsor: Debbie Guzzi Contest: Spring Haibun red buds glow(verb)

Wordsworth's Daffodils

One spring morning, William and his sister Dorothy stroll through the woods and arrive at the lake. As usual, they pause to admire the scenery. The hills surrounding the tranquil stretch of water are beautiful, but some daffodils impress them most.

Dorothy finishes her sketch and decides to also describe them in her diary entry for the day. William feels inspired to write a poem.

Whence Springs Beauty

It’s October, we find time to go by the spring-house to get the tulips. It is time to prepare for winter and the inevitable coming of spring. The bulbs look hopelessly dead and ugly, rather pitiful in fact. John nurtures them tenderly.

fall gardener tucks the bulbs in bed till spring's alarm
Through many snows and chilling temperatures, we do not consider at all what is taking place under the ground. One warm March day we see tiny noses poking up through the soil around the back porch. By April, we are sitting in the swing admiring the result of John’s loving labor of last fall.
seeing the blooms we recall dried-up bulbs
How could such ugliness have turned to such beauty in the cold, hard earth? As May approaches bringing other flowers, our short-lived tulips drop their blossoms and say good-bye. But as John knows, the wisest of gardeners do not hasten to bother the beauty in its passing.
dust to dust all blossoms shrivel with time food for the soil wilting leaves nourish the bulb hidden in the ground
The bulb remains unattractive throughout the whole cycle of growth. Along in mid-July when all external signs of life have faded, John removes the unsightly bulbs from their bed, putting them back in the spring-house until fall. Without them, there will be no blossoms next spring. It is the care we show the bulb which bursts into the beauty we bless in time. HM

Anything Like Spring

The spring morning casts a thousand bits of sunlight. They shine like diamonds as the caress the morning dew. Tiny bright rainbows Colorful prisms I see They are all for me Regrowth, rebirth, new sprouts are everywhere. They come up from the earth to greet the new season. Everywhere I see, green is the scene. Isn’t green glorious and beautiful? The grass grows anew Up to the sky it reaches They’re seeking heaven Do I want to stay indoors forever? Not on your life! I want to get outside. Open the door and let me out into the world of spring. It is the season of life, and life is what I want to live. Blessings from heaven. Earthlings know it as the sun. Reaching out to all

Spring Birth

one twig, two twigs, three
soft down plucked from mother’s breast
the perfect bower

three tiny blue eggs
under warmth of mother’s love
they stir, they hatch new

three urgent beaks open
insistent, burning, they beg
speckled downy fuzz

Clouds over the Ardennes

Reflected sunset;
Pink cotton candy under
Full moon, azure sky.
In Spring 1981 I was living in Charleville-Meziers in the Ardennes department of France. I looked out my window one late afternoon, and saw the sunset colors projected on clouds over the opposite horizon, above the village houses and forests on the mountain slopes. Stepping out onto the balcony, I could see the sky progress from light blue to a deep azure, with a full moon above them all. The beauty was stunning; I couldn't take pictures fast enough.

Lessons From The Leaves and The Tree I

Lessons From The Leaves and The Tree I
( Life's Journey)

Life was beautiful
for all the leaves in the tree
in spring and summer

They flourished and bloomed
under the warm summer sun
and sweetest spring rain

Their color brightened
to a lovely shade of green
that glowed with beauty

Flowering blossoms
from the buds of the fruit tree
brought joy and delight

Little birds would peck
as they sit on the branches
on the lush green leaves

It was the best time
of their lives atop the tree
filled with happiness

But life has seasons
that never stay all the time
they come and they go

Spring and summer passed
autumn came and its cold winds
changing all the leaves

Turning their color
from bright green to brown and red
yellow and orange

Their brightness faded
their loveliness spent and gone
making them pale and weak

How seasons changed them
tempering all their nature
through adversities

Winter will arrive soon
and do her task of sweeping
the bough of the tree

The faded leaves will go
and leave the tree to herself
to make room for spring

When new leaves will grow
to replace those that have gone
in the cold winter

In such a lifetime
they have gone through all seasons
in smooth and rough times

That is how life goes
for all the leaves in the trees
in the cycle of life
