Graceful, Disgrace

The lilies were excessive.
Bless her, she does her best to
Lift the funerial hush
That's settled on this damned household.
Get them out,
You can't contain their boisterous bloom
To the kitchen alone.
The overspill of white
Does little to obscure the silence they're replacing.
Graceful, disgrace,
Wretch like me.

Very interesting and intense poem...had to read a second time! I love these lines:"she does her best to Lift the funerial hush That's settled on this damned household." I also appreciate your subtle yet effective alliteration-"boisterous bloom" and the concept of "graceful, disgrace"... very interesting! Well done! Always, Laura

Hi Annie - I've been waiting for a new one and here it is in all its glory. From the first line "the lilies were excessive" I was hooked. "Graceful, disgrace" are two impeccable words. Please cart me away a wooden box, tears in lieu of flowers. I try never to set foot in a florist. The aroma makes me nauseous. love, Kathny

What a powerhouse of a poem, in, what?, just 11 lines? This is really good. I'm so glad that I dropped by this page. Your title caught my eye- perfect! I am always in a quandry (as most poets are) when it comes to commenting on such an emotional yet well wrought piece of art as you have here. This is a painful piece. I'm sorry for what you have experienced. But the gem you honed from the loss is magnificent. Phoenix from the flame, miss... I may have to point some others to this write. FANTASTIC
