Dark Nostalgia.

A town unlocks their Baptist cage.
They shout and scream unholy rage.
The scorching sun sears all beneath,
Forsaken whips snap from their teeth.
Their eyes are slits that sting of salt.
Born black; born here; it's all his fault.
And what they learned at mothers' knee,
keeps cadence, creaking, from a tree.

Very dark nostalgia indeed, Gerard. My! had to come way back to your first poem, I've seen all the ones on current page! Hey I had to look at my limerick again to realize why said you imagined me singing a chorus to a RAy Charles song. It was my Hit the Road Jack line. haha. You are so funny. LUv, Andrea

Brillant write here, Gerard. Don't like the "its all his fault" line though. Maybe in reference to "born here" but never, ever in reference to "born black" ... smile ... can you tell your writing has be going ... LOL ... great selection to be featured this week at the Soup ! Congratulations !!
