Come Back

You have left a hollow hole In a chasm that was already there. Your absence is untying my ribbons Leaving my feelings bare. Ugly souls aren’t as horrid, Without your pureness to compare them to. Come back, even if it were Just for a day or two. Your pictures left dark patches And disgusting patterns on the walls. My heart aches at the possibility Of using that pall. You said you’d leave for twelve days But it feels like forever. I am trying to cope Living without you I will endeavor. Come back, and I promise I’ll make you heal and feel better. We’ll cuddle all night as We contemplate the weather. Clunk! Went the metal lock As it fell on the floor. Knock! Went the firemen As they broke down that door. Roar! Went the oven As it burnt our house down. Crackle… went the fire As it laughed and growled. Come back mother Even if it were only for an hour. We’re brittle and starving, Dad’s salmon is burnt and sour. We are rotting in mountains of laundry Left undone. Who else could take care of us? You were the only one. We long for your sweet silky feel And ironed touch. Come back mother! We miss you so much!
