Johnny the Fable Sapling
Evening came and the Harvest Moon was about to rise, little did Johnny know this night would bring him a surprise… Johnny lived in a mushroom village with many folks just like him. He carried an over sized set of hands and feet. Johnny was a Fable Sapling. The adults were called Fable Elders. The legend was that the Fables large feet and hands were made from the god of Fist Paw. As he grew up his extremities grew to be ten feet long and eight feet wide. These were used to catch Rainicorns. They are rainbow colored unicorns. The more Ranicorns he caught the more power he had to freeze things. The Fables needed this power to chase away the evil Urchins who were born to destroy all of their kind. After the Fables catch the Rainicorns, they are set free to live as a regular unicorn. Not only did the Fables live in mushrooms they used them as a shield from the Harvest Moon. The day arrived of the Harvest Moon. A night of lost Urchins lurking around the village searching for Fables to eat. If you eat a Fable Elder you gain powers of flying, freezing things and blowing up threats. Johnny had the power of premonition and nothing else. He had just caught a Rainicorn so now he held the power to freeze things. As the Harvest Moon started to rise Johnny had a premonition that the Urchins were on their way to destroy the village. He hurried to go tell the Elders but they were all too busy building a ramp for Papa Elder. Papa had been falling and is too old to walk on his own. He needed a flap belt to raise him and roll him up the ramp into his mushroom palace. Only Papa and Gramma Elder lived in the palace. Frantic, Johnny ran to the head Seer. He was the almighty powerful Guru Elder who was invincible and immortal. “Seer, Seer! You must help me!”, Johnny screamed. “The Urchins are after our village, what do I do? I need your help!” The Seer sat Indian style with his eyes closed. He saw the Urchins marching this way and spoke softly, “dear Sapling, only you hold the power to save the village. You alone carry many gifts beyond all others to create a world without the Urchins. Believe in yourself and find the truth behind your fear and you shall find freedom leading to a new world called Utopia.” Johnny stood there confused and thought, “hmm me? I will help save the village from the evil Urchins? How can this be?” After a few moments he looked at the Seer and said, “thank you almighty for your guidance and confidence in me.” Johnny was walking and he looked up and saw the Harvest Moon rising higher over the village. His heart raced and his feet were so big he couldn’t run fast enough. Fables wonder why the god of Fist Paw gifted them these large feet and hands. After all, they seemed to be more of a nuisance. There was an Urchin coming towards Johnny. Instantly he threw out his hands of ten feet long and “BAM!” He froze him! Another Urchin rain towards him. “BAM!” Johnny froze him too! He only had a few moments before they would unfreeze. He panicked. He feared the worst. His freezing powers were used up and he had nothing left but the power of premonition. He closed his eyes and saw a Rainicorn flying towards him! After opening his eyes there it was ready to help the Sapling. His large hands reached and wrapped themselves around it and a shocking light of a rainbow colored aura flew from the Rainicorn into Johnny’s hands. Johnny was grateful but thought, “yes, I can freeze the Urchins but how will I destroy them?” The unicorn trotted away into the night. Back at the village the Elders knew of the threat. They could smell the Urchins and followed the scent ending up where Johnny was. Only Papa Elder could help now but he was so frail. Gramma flew back to the village strapped Papa onto her waist and flew them both back to the outskirts of the village. They landed safely and Papa was placed gently on the ground. They heard, “BOOM CRASH BAM!” the Urchins unfroze and war began. The Fables were freezing and flying everywhere! It was so chaotic Johnny feared for all their lives. He looked up and the Harvest Moon was just about fully risen and screamed to Papa, “PAPA! Look out the Harvest Moon is risen!” Just then Papa reached his ten foot hand out towards Johnny and Johnny stuck his big toe out and pointed it at the Harvest Moon. The connection of the two made a red and yellow lightning flash. “ZIP!” The lightning reflected off the Harvest Moon and shot at all the frozen Urchins and they blew up before all the Fable’s eyes! The Harvest Moon had been the only way to save the village after all! Papa knew this all along. The Seer had warned him when he was just a wee Sapling himself. Every one cheered with excitement all the Urchins were finally gone! They could go on living with their new lives of fearless peace. They must have been awake until three in the morning. The next morning Johnny woke up. He was so shocked! His hands and feet were the normal size of a human! He walked outside and there were no more Rainicorns either. Just then all the Fables ran together and everyone in the village turned into humans! Johnny was still a little boy and Papa was still old and fragile, but nonetheless, they were human now. Johnny ran to talk to the Seer and he was nowhere to be found. Just then he found a note with his name on it. It read, “Dear Sapling, if you’re reading this then that means you’ve defeated the Urchins and you no longer need me. I was only here for a short time. During your young life you have accomplished so much. I am proud of you. No words will express how grateful I am that you have given birth to a new world called Utopia. Be blessed, stay humble and live a life of joy and happiness. Love always, The Seer.” Johnny shed a tiny tear and smiled. He walked back to the village and thought to himself, “thank you god of Fist Paw for my gifts. They truly saved our village…" We must use our blessed gifts for the greater good. Johnny lives in us all! Who knows we may save the world!
