Stars
When she looks into the stars, nothing in the world matters anymore; she is alone. It’s like she’s in her own little universe and nothing can touch her here. Not sadness or grief. The stars make everything seem okay again; like she’s that little girl once more and innocents over takes her. But on those nights where she can’t look at her precious stars, she is reminded of that deep pit that sits in the back of her mind and taunts her. The words that carved this very pit echo off its walls and become louder with each echo. The words are painful reminders of her sad excuse for a life. "This isn't living," she thought to herself on the nights where the stars were hidden. More often than not, she would stay up all night looking at an empty sky; nothing but the moon shone down to her. She missed her stars and the stories they told her. The stars gave her a reason to live. In those empty nights, her mind would wander to the thought of how easy it is to a take a life; how much simpler it would be for others around her. One particular dark and eerie night, where the stars hid from sight, she decided that if her stars didn't want to show their beauty, neither did she. So she took out a piece of paper and wrote the note that she had memorized; the words of this said note were carved into the wall of the deep, dark pit. She lay in bed clutching the note in one hand, and in the other she held a handful of pills of various size and shape. With one last deep breath, she tossed the pills into her mouth and gulped them down. She just laid there while the light in her eyes faded like a dying star. Dimmer and dimmer the light grew until there was no light left. Her empty eyes stared out the window as the clouds gave way to show the shinning stars once again. One shining just a little bit brighter than all the rest.
