The Star
I based this rhyme on a short story by Arthur C Clarke ... That star that shone bright in the East on which the Magi's eyes did feast What was it that was really seen Perhaps a supernova it may have been And if that distant dying sun which signified a life begun had a planet just like Terra Could God have made a tragic error? And did He even realise despite His omnipresent eyes that life existed on that world Surely He watched as it unfurled Why did He let life start at all when He knew that it would fall A billion years of evolution wasted, 'coz of His 'solution' Perhaps a lifeform existed there A noble species, tall and fair A species without war and strife Intelligent and long of life Surely another star would do Our galaxy has quite a few Why choose that star from all the sky to briefly flare and then to die Ten billion souls were sacrificed A beacon for the birth of Christ To wipe them from the firmament was that really His intent? So when He caused that star to blow did He really never know that He wiped life from that place just to 'save' the human race
