The Magic Painting
She stood before the painting And slowly it changed The cat moved slightly The woman’s head nodded She liked the painting It was very well done Much intricate design Much wizardry of the eye They had resurfaced Then gone again Forever lost In magical memories There in the silence A new picture appeared A road on the mountains Where there were many winds The clouds were profound And there was an angel Holding something above the road It was beautiful She sat there all day And recorded the paintings One by one As the pictures changed She did not sleep She did not eat She sat in front of the magical painting And watched And watched and watched And watched She like many others was found dead in front of the painting She had not bathed, she had not slept, and she had not eaten. The beautiful paintings would appear and disappear leaving the victim Stunned In awe And paralyzed with wonder, until they starved to death. The magical painting had killed her Its auburn crisp fall scene of a white picket fence Golden leaves And a beautiful sunset No one knew how she had managed to sit there and just die But the painting they found her sitting in front of was remarkable, And the notepad was full of descriptions Some vague Some poetic Some were rantings about how cruel the world was outside her window The painting had claimed another victim And like the woman with the cat She too would appear in the painting from time to time Smiling by a window drinking wine Holding a pen scrawling on a note pad wearing a blue dress. The painting stayed in the house for over a decade and no one saw the changes but soon it was sold in an auction and its story continues.
