Few Sensitive Other Callous To a Symbolic Gesture Earth Hour
For “EARTH HOUR” we pledged without words rearranging, Let us try and attempt to stop things from changing Am doing my bit as promised to myself and me, wrote a poem on “earth hour”, published it and mailed it for reasons to see. and walked around to spread the word in the vicinity and proximity, I felt their impish chuckles and their sugar coated words filled with hypocrisy. But, I said to myself that I will help add drop by drop, To the earths porous crust some hope that would be inerasable to mop. So early in the evening our house lights we turned out, To the beach to celebrate this hour with a candle lit dinner with family we set about. Half an hour drive to be on the sands of Sernabatim beach, Four of us sat outside on the beach on chairs laid out for us each. As the “earth hour” commenced a pleasant breeze blew in and around, And we can see in the darkness ahead the frothy white foam is drowned. Half an hour into the celebrations after our candle lit dinner we have enjoyed, Into the cool sands towards the westward shores we move all of us overjoyed. spent waves, frothy waters our warm feet they treat, We sing songs in the praise of nature as our feet they sink in the sands as the waters retreat. Further our feet they sink in , our voices in praise of nature they pitch higher, With repetitive vigor waters move in leaving me to think “why, to protect nature man has no desire?!” Parts of Iraq, Afghanistan and In Saligao a village in Goa, At the international space station and at the Angkor Wat in Cambodia, At Acropolis in Athens, post Gadaffi Libya Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Big Ben, 147 countries, 5 411 cities & towns, People sang songs and celebrated “earth hour” willingly without any frowns. But the rest of us? Why are we callous and unconcerned? Why are we indifferent to Mother Nature? People of all creeds, races and stature why are we Blithe? We don’t want a calamity by nature that would take us by surprise I have heard our people natter and skeptically speak Solar and other technology is great but turning off the lights for an hour is an idea that is weak. Candles are of paraffin and hydrocarbons they release, So where is the carbon emission going to decrease? My fellow natives of the world, I wish we work upon our thoughts that are inwardly curled, And from now on Think green and from nature receive double green thumbs up, And not its fury that will fill us up in its murky bloodied cup
