Friends are so easy to come by when everything is happy and gay. Numerous are the people who surround you when all you do is laugh and play. Your true friends will only be discovered when circumstances get you down. For they will stand right beside you even though you bear a constant frown. Even though it is not pleasant they will give thought to the pain you are in. That alone is enough to justify them as your dear friend. In your time of need your real friends will be right there. Letting you know with each encouraging word that they care. True friends never sympathize but empathize instead. That way they can relate exactly to the thoughts running through your head. As barren as your pocketbook is your friends tend to be too. That's why love enters your heart as they offer what little they have to you.
