The Green Devil
Underneath the Southern Cross, the comet makes its way, A trail of greenish fire, igniting night from day. It came from distant realms, from icy, darkened space, Returning after decades, with its horned trace. Devil Comet streaks the sky, with vivid emerald light, As sunlit heat transforms its core, igniting it in flight. A ghostly tail extends behind, a veil of vapor’s glow, From deep within its nucleus, where icy tempests grow. The night is filled with whispers, with stories from the stars, The comets are their messengers, from worlds both near and far. We gaze upon its passage, we marvel at its show, This comet known as Devil, a fleeting cosmic flow. Its journey speaks of epochs, of ancient days and lore, Of times when Earth was younger, when comets freely soared. Each orbit has a story, a history to share, A bridge across the ages, a momentary flare. So look upon the heavens, and witness this rare sight, The Devil Comet gracing us, in the Australian night. For seventy-one long years, it wandered through the dark, Now over southern skies, it leaves its radiant mark. Stand upon the outback, where the starlight's crystal clear, And watch the comet's passage, as it draws itself near. It's here but for a moment, then back to realms unknown, An interstellar traveler, the cosmos' rolling stone. 25.04.2024
