Lockheed, the Purple Dragon
Lockheed, is a fictional Marvel Comic character. An alien dragon. He is the size of a large cat with purple skin, yellow eyes, sharp claws and teeth, curved horns on his head and wings so he can fly. His brain is immune to telepathic probes. He can understand humans and sometimes he speaks. Lockheed can breathe intense projecting fire, he is a skillful fighter and hero. He is the life companion of Shadowcat, Kitty Pryde, of X-Men and Excaliber. Lockheed has love for Kitty and shows human emotions of empathy. Kitty is a young girl with mutant powers, she is gifted, intelligent and brave and has great abilities like quantum tunneling. Kitty and her pet dragon can sense each other and even understand each others thoughts. They share a deep mental and emphatic connection. Kitty found Lockheed on Brood, a colonized planet. Brood is a planet where a race of insectoid, parasitic, extraterrestrial beings exist beyond Earth. They have wings, fanged teeth, and stinging tails and vary in size. They are sadistic evil demons, living in a hive mentality and they are called the Flock. This is where Lockheed was born, but he is nothing like these evil creatures. Lockheed coos when Kitty pets him. Both Kitty and Lockheed are members of the X-Men Team, which is a group of mutant teenagers with superhero powers fighting against evil in the world. Kitty and her pet dragon have had many adventures and fierce battles during their time with X-Men. Don't let Lockheed's cuteness fool you as he is one dangerous little fire breathing dragon. They are also members of Excaliber, a government sponsored team of mutants and others with extraordinary abilities, most former members of X-Men or are British heroes. Basically an offshoot of X-Men. Again Kitty and Lockheed did their duty. Together were involved in many complicated stories. S.W.O.R.D. is an American intelligence agency dedicated to protecting earth from extraterrestrial and extra dimensional threats. I am unsure of the reason but Lockheed was working there as a mole. As a result he betrayed many of his friends and allies. His biggest grief was losing Kitty. As a result he flew away. Lockheed in time did have a reunion with Kitty. Now,more mature and called Kate. Kate has fallen in love and is to be married. Of course Lockheed is not that happy about her boyfriend but does attend his wedding. Lockheed was part of the Pet Avengers mini series. Teaming up with Lockjaw, a teleporting bulldog, Redwing, a pet falcon, Zabu, a saber tooth tiger and many other animals for lots of adventures. His team affiliations have also been with the Marauders and probably other teams. Although, Kitty ages, Lockheed does not. I am sure there are many adventures and battles to write about them but then this poem would be way to long. Remember though, Lockheed is still alive and out there somewhere . . . _______________ March 19, 2023 Poetry/Prose Poetry/Lockheed, The Purple Dragon Copyright Protected, ID 03-1532-585-19 All Rights Reserved, 2023, Constance La France Written for the Premiere contest, Marvel Animals sponsor, Robert James Liguori, Judged 03/21/2023 First Place
