Thoughts On Russian Aggression

We stand on the brink of a savage day Astounded by the onslaught of fighting In Ukraine, a beautiful land, so far away Where the fires of cannon are igniting Flames of hatred, fear, and mistrust As the free world stands by in horror, While a dictator satisfies his greedy lust Like a modern-day reincarnated Fuhrer. The best course of action seems hazy But we’re told everything is on the table To send American troops seems crazy, Still, we must respond as we are able. Perhaps warning of the long-term effect This incursion upon innocents warrants, We can, hopefully, impress upon the tyrant We will punish his disregard for respect. It seems a small, insignificant response But we have the power to cripple his might Let him not take what appears nonchalance, For his nation will suffer a crippling plight -- Ostracized by all peace-loving nations, Strapped for needed materiel resources, Unable to trade for the necessary rations Essentially embargoed from available sources.

It is my belief, that Putin now is holding the world hostage. No one wants an all out world war, so the world will stand by and watch him take over Ukraine. The people of Russia will eventually be the losers. They are the ones the sanctions will affect the most and of course the poor Ukranians who will perish under the heel of Russia's boot. The prospect of a "nuclear winter" is a great deterrent. My .02.

There is a great deal of truth in your comments, Daniel. I appreciate your contribution and thoughts. Hopefully, the situation can be contained, one way or another.

What can one say? It's a nightmare in the Ukraine now. How long can undermanned freedom fighters hold out? We'll see.

Ah, gw, I'm afraid theirs is a lost cause, but they are truly dedicated and many of them will fight to their graves. Such a damned shame. I think the "free world" must put such pressure on the...can't think of a word...that he will realize what a horribly irreprehensible thing he has done. I could go on and on...but I won't. You know how I feel!

...our modern 'civilization' depends on limitations to keep the peace....it's why a society requests/requires policing.... back in the 60's russia backed off from putting war nukes in the communist country of cuba...next door to the u.s. so....likewise...no missles should be put in a possible future nato country right next door to russia.....simply common sense... ...but, the media knows viewers are bored with the corona virus so they play it up like the u.s. is correct.... stans sand

You certainly make a worthwhile point, sand blown. I certainly don't think Putin was correct in invading Ukraine, and I think it was a mistake on his part to do so, especially when we doesn't even have the backing of his own people. Just my opinion.

We should all use non violent means to try and cripple his war machine, there's talk of kicking them out of the swift system which would in effect bankrupt Russia. Short of engaging him militarily there's not much more we can do. Tom

Oh, I do hope we don't engage him militarily. It is simply too risky when dealing with his type. I hate to bring hardship on the Russian people, but, perhaps, if we do so they will turn on him. Of course, they are so accustomed to authoritarian leaders, they may not feel they can. I don't know. I fear we will do so, though.
