Daddy worked the land to put food in our hand He worked in the mill to pay our bills Lived to be 97 years old A simple life, not so bold

My sweet Grannie was born Jan. 1900 and she lived one year longer than your Daddy (assuming this is true). I love this, even cling to this. I've always felt life in 1800s approx preferable to the 1900s for many reasons, and now with AI, it feels so even more profoundly. What is man going to be needed for? Anyway, I love the feel in your words just as I felt them. All the best and poetry hugs ... CayCay everywhere

Thank you, CayCay, for the information and kind review. My father was 2 weeks shy of 97 years and my mother was one month shy of 97, but my mother's sister lived to be 98 years old. I think that the simpler times, and maybe even the work that they did help keep them healthier, but I don't know that. I went to my grandparents' grave this past weekend and they only live to be 82. So, I am not sure exactly what helped with the longevity. Sara K

Yes, Anne-Lise, it was simple, but the labor was long and hard. Life in some ways is so much easier today, but then in cities life issues out some ready hard facets of living that the older generation that lived and stayed at home never even though about. Yes, Sara B., I read your poem about your father, and they were men to respect. My father had his faults, but so much about him was right as well. Thanks for the visit. Sara K

Sad in a way but heroic in many ways. Delightful couplet, dear Sara

Victor, it wasn't easy back then. He lived on the wild side when he was young, but after they adopted me, he lived the best he could with the help of God, The son and the Holy Spirit. He worked hard and long hours. Thanks for the visit and understanding comments. Sara K
