Seventy-Five Years of Seeking Peace

For 75 years Israel has offered peace to her neighbors the Arab response, 'Never!' -- be Israel's leaders Likud or Labor From 1948 to 1967, before 'territories,' before 'occupation' when Israel was an almost indefensible sliver of a nation The Arabs promised time and again to 'throw the Jews into the sea' There was no 'West Bank' or Gaza, they meant Haifa and Tel Aviv From ’48 on, Egypt and Jordan have kept Palestinians in refugee camps And, O, how the pressure from the world has climbed up the ramp Zionism became racism, Jews the ‘evil oppressors’ In 1956, ’67, ’73, ’82, ’87, 2000, the Arabs waged war and intifadas to become our successors Under Rabin and again under Barak, Israel offered Palestinians a state over 90% of Gaza and the ‘West Bank,’ Pres. Clinton said ‘That’s great!’ But Yasir Arafat said Never! His one and only goal was to kill all the Jews --It had gotten to be depressingly old news In 2005, Arik Sharon pulled out of Gaza, no more ‘Israeli occupation’ there What happened next? Hamas took over, but the world didn’t care … In 2023 Israel’s still termed ‘the occupier’ – by Arab sympathizers But after the Oct. 07 atrocities, the game’s up for them ~ 75 years of peace offers just expired

Dear Gershon, Thank you for telling the history of this current horrific crisis in the Middle East. I'm sure that I wasn't the only one uneducated on it. God Bless and we will all continue to pray for peace in the region.

Thank you for letting me know this, Nancy. It's important to remind people of the lengths to which Israel has gone -- abandoning 5/6 of their land (1949), abandoning all of the Sinai Desert (1956 and again 1979), offering 92% of Gaza and the West Bank to the Palestinians (1997 and 2000), voluntarily returning Gaza to the Palestinian Authority (2005), and all we've gotten in return is terror, war, and No! from the Arab side. Thanks again, Gershon

you've explained this well, gershon. in all the articles i've read about this, the most upsetting one was about how close things came to a solution when clinton was trying to negotiate but the offer was rebuffed (not by the israelis). imagine how different things might be now had that peace settlement been accepted by both sides. what frightens me the most is the world turning against israel and the jews without taking the history into consideration...

Thank you for your perceptive comment and for your support Ilene. Yes, how different things could be, and could have been for a long time, if not for Arab intransigence... And the Jew-hatred of the Nazi era has simply been passed down to the Arabs... Time to circle the wagons and unite against the devil... Please know that the morale of the IDF is sky-high, as it is in most of Israel, save for those who have hostages in Hamas' clutches. Faith and Strength, Gershon

Incorrect, faulty, and wrong.

What exactly is 'incorrect?' What precisely is 'faulty?' I've provided facts. You've provided only your personal opinion. The Truth will out, Gershon

Sadly Gershon, the media will never let the facts get in the way of the "narrative"

an informative read, Gershon. I'm grateful to have the history within your words. Definitely a sad state of affairs. My heart bleeds for the people of Israel who from where I'm sitting have been mislabeled and misunderstood. The antisemitism in our country and around the world is unfathomable and hard for me to grasp and comprehend. Thanks for sharing your informative words. Enjoy your day, Sara

A sad situation is now going on with so many people being killed, wounded, and families hurting on both sides of the fight. I would desire peace, but we all know there won't be peace until Jesus comes to set up His Kingdom. I know that is not your belief, but it is mine. Thanks for sharing this information with us. I don't keep up with political happenings. I do listen to the news, but it doesn't stay in my memory bank very long, so the information was good to remind me of the situation/s. Sara K

We respect each other's beliefs, which is the way things should be on this planet: I.e., understand and respect the differences, and work together on that which unites us. Perhaps surprisingly, one thing that I believe unites us is our belief that the Messiah is the ultimate solution to 'Peace in the Middle East' is the Messiah. We merely differ as to who that Messiah is. When He comes, then we'll both know. :) gw

This whole situation is so depressing, and messed up. Let’s pray for everyone who’s suffering.

The situation cries out for clarity, doesn't it? I've tried to provide as much as I can.
