Our Unexpected Visitors
Our friends are dying fast.
Visits are very few.
But we all have a blast,
When occasionally they do.
It was pouring rain on Friday,
Not the most cheerful weather,
It was not the time "To make hay".
Just lovely still to be together.
Then to our surprise,
Our doorbell rang,
John took time to arise,
Then we heard the"Bang."
John tried to hurry to the door,
He was far too slow,
When he finally got there,
He found our old friend Joe
John was delighted to see Joe,
And Gwen, Josip's wife,
We had not seen them for seven years
Because of circumstances of life.
Josip is from Ukraine,
He is a knowledgeable man
He has lived a life of pain
And can handle strife.
Gwen was using a walker,
Joe is partially blind
Gwen is an easy talker,
And she is very kind.
We made tea and coffee,
And a bite to eat,
Gwen said, How long have you been deaf?
As John sat rubbing his feet.
In the course of the conversation,
I had to instil eyedrops and take various pills,
It was a revelation
To discover so many ills
After we had discussed our ailments
And how life as we knew it,
Way back when has changed
We got onto the derailments
Of unnecessary wars,
Brought about by Power and greed
That has deranged
The Universe.
Our conversation peppered,
With every emotion that one could feel,
We laughed and sighed
Our friendship sealed,
No aches and pains
That afternoon
All forgotten
As there was no room
For personal woes.
We talked them away
The conversation was stimulating,
We could have talked for days
The time spent was invigorating
It brought our brains into play.
No need to agree with all that was said,
Respecting opinions,
Without being easily led,
Keeping an open mind,
Until you find,
The answers that are true
And acceptable to you,
Thank you, Gwen and Joe,
Your visit cheered us so.
See you in the New year.
It will give us time for our minds to clear.
