On Killing Poetry

On Killing Poetry How truly small can we create a poem? Small as a button or a well-worn stone? Is is technocracy or at we in a hurry? That drives us to such dire, poetic perfidy? Perhaps one of only periods and commas? We'd all comment, "oh such fantastic, sensitive drama!" Full use of English,or Francais to name but a few. We avoid them like a disease, or am I off cue? I don't know if it's the desire to win a trophy or what? It just seems killing the language , is the meanest, poetic cut! August 16, 2020 6am PST

Hi Pangie, now this is a serious write. Why do we write poetry? There are so many answers to this question. I write, long, boring poetry. I know that people do not like this kind of poetry but it is me. Poetry must always come from the heart and the soul. This kind of poetry seems to sing in the mind. There seems to be too many rules in poetry these days. I actualy saw a poem with only periods and commas, fullstops and question marks and as you say, it was lauded to the Heavens. Mike. XX

This question riles some poets.I have no doubt you saw what you did. Imagine if you will, a love song with only three words! I understand minimalist poetry is "in. "The problem I have is I don't understand some of it. There seems to be a school of thought that any words on paper, with you or I declaring ourselves as poets, automatically makes us poets. I see no win in this. I can declare myself an Olympic Skater, too. But cannot skate. Poetry currently is anything?? How about Poetry only made of Emojis? LOL. Everyone's a Poet now. Maybe one day there will be standards. For now? None.))) Pangie xx

Poetry comes from the heart, if you follow that I think you're on the right path, who says we have to follow rules, we bend it and shape it anyway we want. Tom

Lovely write! Quite right too in your assessment of what passes as poetry sometimes! Write for the purity of it, to let the music in your soul out, to craft words that travel to another heart and mind!

Krish... Throwing words on paper does not a poet make! There is an art to it , like sculpture. I like the ones with heart and soul. We probably all have different viewpoints. Words, for words sake? Any of us can use a thesaurus and impress others. It Goes right past me. )))) thanks Krish. Pangiexx

Darleme..all ok here with all of us. Eddie in school.They practice safety but nothing imsane. Have not been in my soup mail amd won't be for awhile. Hungry today..good lunch is big..don't want to eat when it's hoy. Hope all OK in Canada Pangie xx Pangie
