Love Daddy Now Hate Daddy Please

Here is your new stepfather.
Lucky you!
We are in love.
He will love you like he loves me!
The child is two, he does not quite understand.

Here are your three new step brothers.
You get to share your room.
You will all be so happy, like real brothers!
They toss the two-year-old around like a football.
He loves it!
He loves them.
He loves his new daddy.

It is four years later.
Mommy has fallen out of love.
Daddy is leaving.
“I HATE HIM!” she tells her now-six-year-old.
“You hate him too, and your brothers!”
He is six-years-old.
He loves his daddy and his brothers.
How can mommy ask him to do this?
