Lessons From the Sandpit

Go play in the sandpit was the call from my Mother, Whenever I was bored. My first teacher then took over from my Mother, In repeating those same words of Wisdom. Thankfully the words had sunk in by the time our children arrived. The answer to most of life's future problems were all there, For us to discover for ourselves in the sandpit. And those of us who went on to bigger and better things, (Which was most of us who took our sand play seriously), Have cause to be grateful for time spent in the sandpit. Social skills were refined in the sandpit, Which helped later on in life when facing up to Bullies. As were leadership skill and teamwork, Not just in theory but in practice, As no sandpit project was completed that I remember, Without a little co-operation, We even learned to toss around ideas, When we weren't throwing sand. Engineering skills of varying degrees were born in the sandpit, And I am sure many heavy machinery operators owe their dexterity, To the manipulative skills they developed in the sandpit. We came to understand so much about cause and effect from experiments, Carried out using just water and sand. The properties of water no longer a mystery to us by the time We graduated from the sandpit, The same could also be said about the power of volcanos. I am sure some owe the time in the the sandpit, For some of their better inventions. I also think those who made it into the sand pit, Found math's a more pleasurable subject too. Friendships were made, Often for life, In the confines of the sandpit. And the smarter ones among us came to realise that girls on the team, Were an advantage when a fresh approach to an engineering problem Was needed. I think all prospective parents should spend time in the sandpit, So, they won't get too uptight when a little sand is traipsed inside, Who knows they might even throw a sickie, So, they can play in the sandpit with their children. If there are any CEO'S reading this you might like to entertain the idea Of a Company sandpit, To ease stress in the workplace, Reduce bullying And Sexual discrimination. I can picture it now, Two work colleges having some issues And the boss telling them To go play in the sandpit. Of course he or she would have to put a time limit on it, As they might not want to come out of the sandpit, For the rest of the week.
