I Wished I Were a Cowboy

I wished I were a cowboy riding a handsome palomino, But, I was just a little kid, my sis watching Valentino. I wished I were a cowboy rounding up the longhorns, But, I was just a little kid still believing in unicorns. I wished I were a cowboy drinking a sarsaparilla, But, I fell asleep at night clutching my Roy Rogers pillow. As time went by, I grew up and moved on to bigger things But, when I hear “Happy Trails to You” my heart still gladly sings!

Hi , This a good entry for the contest. You captured the “spirit” of a little boy who wanted to be a cowboy very well. Best wishes in the contest:-) Alexis

Thanks, Suz. Actually, they were just some thoughts that came into my head from my childhood. I grew up playing cowboys and Indians. I guess kids don't do that now.

A fine put together a boy has even as an adult child. With excellent rhyme I like all the time. Peace, Love and Joy.

Ha! This piece reminds me of Toy Story, Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns, and Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series of novels. Never bad things to think of, I say...anywho, well written piece my friend and fellow poet.

Thanks, Ryan. I had some of those in mind, too.
