Gishs Wish

My goldfish Gish, made a wish he wished to be a “dishy” fish. He wanted so to gorgeous be; he is more colorful than a flea. And so, I bought him a tiny mirror so he could see that he was in error. A Japanese goldfish of great color, more vibrant orange than any other. Gish has these lovely pearly spots boring colors, he is not! With spots of orange, red and yellow; he’s a dapper little fellow. Gish was convinced, he was not fine but, what he saw, was so sublime. All Gish needed was a mirror boost; now he feels so very spruced. So if your goldfish, wants to be a dish, tell him to make a little wish. Plop down a mirror, beside his bowl; and a majestic vision, he’ll behold.

A darling rhyme! It made me think of my friend's daughter who has spent hours crying for she had a new aquarium and three new fish and they all passed away within eight hours. Any advice? For I feel strongly that you do HAVE Gish, the fish.

Did...I did have Gish; many years ago. I once made the mistake of keeping Sword-tails in my tank; that was the problem though; it's hard to keep them in; they tend to leap out. I finally had to clamp down the lid so that it couldn't bump the top off. Glad you enjoyed Gish.

One fish, two fish; red fish, blue fish. This one has a little car. This one has a little car. Say, what a lot of fish there are! Smiles all around ~ Suess on the Loose :)

I think that Seuss contest opened a channel...I've been channeling Seuss ever since. Of course, who better to channel? Glad you enjoyed the read. Thanks.

Decades ago I bought our daughter K.K. a goldfish. it lasted 4 days and then died--she was 5 and she cried. I am glad that your fine poem has no such sad ending,,

I actually won one when I was around 10, at a local school fair, tossing those little ping pong balls into the goblets. I think he lived a couple of months, as near as I can recall. They really don't live too long in captivity unless you keep them in a regular tank with a pump. Anyway, it was a fun poem to write.

Hi ML When my daughter was born, iwas given a similar fish. Gorgeous. When she died, I found a colorful glass mobile, in memory of her. Panagiota

Interesting coincidence, I've always done something in memory of my deceased pets, too. I have a nice tea-rose garden in my back yard where are buried favored dogs and cats, we had cremated. Thanks.

Such a cute poem and your poetic talent really came to the fore in this write - you realized what the fish would enjoy - a mirror - and you were right! Extremely well penned MLK loved your poem, Hugs, Jennifer.
