Ficus Benjamina

Oh my dear Ficus Benjamina tree... Your lovely limbs have harbored me from sun. We picnic on the green grass in your shade And watch our grandkids play so gleefully. I can remember when you were so small, My children too shared joy beneath your shade, With lemonade and hot dogs we had fun. This holiday floods mem'ries of it all. Our lovely park that overlooks the bay Where I went biking in my youthful times, As we both grow old, let my mind still keep The secrets that we shared each golden day. 5-24-19 ~ 4th Place ~ AN UPLIFTING FEELING Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Line Gauthier |

Hi Connie, will never forget a particular tree in our lives - you give Ficus Benjamina a soul. A beautiful poem -My father planted a Christmas Tree 42 years ago in their garden which unfortunately was hit by lightening - it must have been at least three storeys high and the lightening got it - sadly it had to be cut done but i asked the tree fellers to leave the trunk at about 5 foot tall, and i built a garden around it - i can therefore still recall memories lived under its branches. Hugs and love Jenny.

Hello Connie … it's amazing how we can travel back in time and relate enjoyable feelings with one tree involved. Your poem took me back to my childhood to see what I could find, and I found a number that I could picture clearly, but sadly, now they have gone - thank you Connie - Lindsay

Ficus Benjamina is fun on the tongue when spoken. Your poem is as lovely as the imagery and feel your pen captured. Why 'lImbs' instead of 'limbs', is it deliberate or a result of a pesky keyboard? Did u get my LONG email from 5-24 (I think)? Beautiful poem from a beautiful lady poetess. Love you ... CayCay (at first I typed Connie instead of CayCay - time for coffee!)

It was another kindle typo. I fixed it. Thank you CayCay. Been super busy with my daughter moving in with her family so I have had little time to even answer emails. I promise to respond real soon. xxoo

You describe so well that special feeling we have when we see the tree growing throughout the years and it brings back such lovely memories. (Just googled this tree to see its lush, leafy branches.) Beautifully written, Connie! Hugs, Carolyn

That beautiful tree has kept a record through its rings of our visits through the years. I never knew they grew so large. Thank you so much Carolyn. I have missed being around as my daughter is moving in with her family for a month before they leave and I've been super busy. xxoo
