Catonita Strikes - Part One: a Freezer Mice Adventure
Continued from FREEZER MICE
The cat had travelled straight from hell, a hell beyond the stars
The cat that theories claim once levied genocide on Mars
She now seeks vengeance on descendants of the primal shrew
Whoever knew that humble shrew would lead to me and you
Her journey had begun before the rock that killed the lizards
The prehistoric shrew had killed her mate and fried his gizzards
The shrew - a mammal - sent to be the first on planet ‘Blue’
Had crashed then froze and so she chose to - mostly - slumber too
The passing of the ages led the shrew to favour night
Yet those that shared her freezing bed now feared no dark or light
But Catonita lived to kill the shrew and planet ‘Blue’
And with her tails now flicking darts, her lethal aim was true

In the hands of Stanley Dann, the car careered all over
Avoiding the exploding cars and vans that got bowled over
As each incendiary dart was flung by Catonita
Dann proclaimed, “That pussy cat is up against a cheetah.”
Cody shouted to be heard above the engine’s roar,
“That cat once had one dart per tail but now has many more.”
He said, “How come you drive so well when you seem so austere?”
Dann said, “Survival instinct… and a bucketful of fear!
“We must get to the river and the bridge that’s been condemned
And pray it doesn’t fall and dump us in the river Thames.”
Crocket yelled, “Was that the plan, perhaps you could remind us.”
Stanley Dann just shrugged. “Let’s hope her darts all land behind us.”
The army and the airforce had now cleared the roads at last
The car approached the bridge with Catonita closing fast
They hurtled through the barricade as soldiers shouted, “STOP!”
Stanley tried to warn them that the cat was in a strop
The pedal hit the metal and they sped across the river
As four exploding soldiers made the bridge begin to quiver
Catonita pounding on the Bridge’s failing structure
Closed the gap a little as the road began to rupture
Her tails were flicking darts all set to detonate on impact
And each of those explosions left that crossing less intact
The freezer mice cried out as one, “The bridge behind has cracked!”
Doctor Stanley Dann said, “Cats hate water… it’s a fact.”
Their car traversed the bridge, it’s surface crumbling at its heels
As Catonita’s darts were still exploding by its wheels
They reached the other side just as the bridge behind them fell
It’s whole supporting structure - and the cat - went down as well
Dann slammed on the brakes and Cody eyed him with a frown.
“Would you care to tell us why you’ve chosen to slow down?”
Stanley Dann turned in his seat and said, “The job’s not done.
The cat is wet, she isn’t dead, and soon she’ll want some fun.
“The river here is tidal and it’s ebbing as we speak.
That devil-cat of yours might feel she’s really up the creek,
but if she makes the river’s edge and clambers up the bank,
she’ll soon be dry and then she’ll try to find the ones to thank.”
Crocket checked his wrist and said, “Well if you want to check
on Catonita’s whereabouts, feel free to risk your neck.
Our bio-specs are low, we must shrink down or pay the price.
We need to find post-haste a place to linger in some ice.”
Dann gazed at the river, where no feline raised its head.
“I guess I’d better get you to the freezer store,” he said.
Churchill said, “That sounds like just the place we need to go.
If Catonita finds dry land then pretty soon we’ll know.”
***
No one saw the savage claw of Catonita’s paw
Which reached up from the murky depths not so far from the shore
The barrier at Woolwich built so London never flooded
Now refuge to the monster cat, both angry and well muddied
Before she slept she cleaned herself and then laid down to rest
Her many tails fanned out so that the sun dried them the best
Had she been a moggie she’d have been less quick to learn
But Catonita dozed until the tide was on the turn
With water water everywhere and mud that made it stink
This cat was not as scared of it as Stanley Dann might think
And so it was that soon with bio-specs recharged to high
Further down the river Catonita watched the sky
Two Royal Navy choppers flying just above the river
Sported lethal missiles they were ready to deliver
She turned her ears to focus on her foe as they drew near
Her eyes and ears together made their distance very clear
Catonita flicked a tail, it’s dart took down the first
It’s rotor hit the second and it’s brimming fuel tank burst
She scrutinised the flotsam which was heading for the city
The Catonita aren’t a breed renowned for showing pity
And soon she’d find the foursome that had dumped her in the drink
And now the tide had turned they'd suffer sooner than they think
She leapt into the river and she kept her nine tails high
She would need them soon and then her enemy would die
The flow was slower coming in than when it dragged her out
And when she saw the fallen bridge she quickly clambered out

Doctor Stanley Dann pushed frozen burgers to one side
The shrunken ‘mice’ blinked at the light. “That’s better,” Cody sighed.
But Dann said, “Time to grow up, friends; that cat has shown its face,
I’d say she’s got a score to settle with the human race.”
