Bar Scene

After nightfall I hear the loud rumbling mufflers of youth On their way to the hottest popular downtown nightclubs Where they imbibe too much, dancing, cruising the night away After midnight, the sotted fellows become more uncouth Some girls pair up for safety’s sake and hail a waiting cab A few hover with drinks in a carefully concealed booth Waiting for a boy, a set of keys, to stagger over Let them take advantage of his inexperienced youth Did they spot earlier, ignored, one of those boorish chubs Cruising the night away, where they imbibe too much, dancing Slip away late in the morning like a successful sleuth. I am so relieved at this part "Some girls pair up for safety’s sake and hail a waiting cab" I was picturing them all driving drunk until I got to it.

I hear you, Caren, but it's a pretty accurate picture of the bar scene; well, as it used to be before COVID. This poem was prompted by the loud sound of a muffler going down my street about 11:00pm! Thanks for reading my poem.
