Baby
She looked through me with those crystal blue eyes and ever so gently whispered in my ear “baby, if you going to be in love, you’ve got an awful lot to learn.” A shot right to the heart, through and through. There was an element of gospel in her words, since being in love with her was always going to be a brittle undertaking. Ever so slowly her arms encircled me, holding me so tight I could not draw in a breath as her deadly kiss sealed my lips; all the while knowing my pain would never really disappear. I could taste the bitterness of blood drawn from my lips; her tongue a piercing dagger extracting confessions of the heart without even trying, not mattering if they were true or not. I was trapped, unwilling to free myself from this high priestess holding me captive, all the while she implored me to savor the moment because it would not last; love never does. She laughed as she looked at me and casually said “baby if you need to be in love, find yourself some vestal virgin and not a real woman. They last a lot longer and are always faithful.” “That might be true” I replied, “but they aren’t as much fun.”
